Structured notes are investment products that combine features of bonds and derivatives to provide tailored outcomes, such as enhanced income or conditional downside protection. Their risk level typically falls between bonds and equities, making them a useful way to diversify and potentially enhance returns alongside traditional investments.
Auto-callable notes are investment products linked to assets like equities, indices, or ETFs. They offer higher coupons and conditional downside protection. If the reference asset is above a set level on an observation date, the note is automatically redeemed early, and investors receive their principal plus coupon.
Contingent downside protection means your principal and coupon payments are protected unless the reference asset falls below a specified level. If this level is breached on an observation date, no coupon is paid.
Investing in individual structured notes can be complex and time-consuming, as it requires ongoing oversight and can be difficult to access or rebalance. The CIBC Structured Equity Yield Fund simplifies this process by offering a single-ticket solution, removing the need for note selection, due diligence, monitoring, and minimum investment requirements.
The Fund may replicate the outcome of auto-callable structured notes either directly by investing in structured notes or indirectly through derivative instruments, depending on market conditions and what the portfolio management team determines to be the most efficient and cost-effective.
